TEXTILE WEEK... (DAY 5 OF 5)

One of the most obvious ways to use fabric in a scrapbook is when you are designing a baby page.  As you look through a baby photo album, it is such a nice surprise to come across a page trimmed in flannel.  It is soft, just like a baby.  I love pretty flannel baby blankets.  Always have.  Always will.  This cushy flannel is better in person.  You'd want to touch it...

Finishing the page with the Go Go Boots Alphabet Sizzlit Die, the Scallop Punch, the Buttons Sizzlit Die and a few Gingham Bows was just right!

My next TEXTILE PROJECT with the BIG SHOT will be making a quilt.  Here is my inspiration...

In the meantime, however, I'm getting back to some paper projects - like making a VINTAGE CARD for Monday's post.  See you then.

TEXTILE WEEK... (DAY 4 OF 5)

The highlight of this week is definitely THE BIG SHOT.  And today, I used the Flower Folds Bigz XL Die...  Here, I ran sheets of craft foam through the Big Shot...

From This

...and made a lollipop bouquet.

Bouquet

My creativity went wild... Next I made the RED FLOWER by ironing fabric onto both sides of fusible interfacing and cutting the shapes with the Big Shot.  It is secured in the middle with a Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon knot.  The FUNNY FACE FLOWER is made from craft foam with the eyes and smile punched from card stock.  It could be easily made for a child's birthday party favor or a craft at VBS in the summer!

Four flowers

But this is my very favorite, made with cotton fabric and quilt batting.  The edges of the pink fabric were easy to fray for a ragged look, but the green fabric was stiff, so I left it alone.  The Clear Button in the center is tied with a little piece of Hemp Twine to give it even more of a country look.

Favorite

I can think of about 100 things to do with these darling flowers.  Can you?

Day 5 of 5 (tomorrow) will feature SCRAPBOOKING WITH TEXTILES!

TEXTILE WEEK... (DAY 3 OF 5)

I wore my black suit with a handmade scarf and matching lapel flower to church on Sunday.  The flower was cut with BIG SHOT DIES and fashioned with the HEAT TOOL...

DSC00733

Here's a closer view of the flower... This was my first attempt at making a flower with the Big Shot, and you can see that it got a little over-heated and melted in the center.  But practice makes perfect - so I'll keep practicing...

DSC00734

I113468T I113469T

HERE'S HOW:  1) You must use a fabric with nylon or a synthetic that is sensitive to heat.  2) Cut two each from the circle dies above with the Big Shot.  (Scallop Circle Bigz Die and the Scallop Circle-2 Bigz Die.)  Place a piece of card stock on top of your top Cutting Pad.  The extra piece of paper acts as a shim, adds a little pressure and makes for a precision cut.  3) Stack all six cut-out pieces together, with smallest circles on the top.  4) Punch a hole in the center of all with the Crop-A-Dile, and secure with a brad or a fancy pin if you want it to show.  5) Use the Heat Tool to sear the edges, from the inside out.  It takes a little time to warm up, but when it does, the edges curl up, literally in the blink of an eye!  So pay close attention.  6) Move from top circle to second circle and down, holding the flower in place on your countertop with something other than your fingers because it gets very hot.

Supplies & Accessories: Big Shot Die-Cut Machine #113439; Bigz Dies #113468 Scallop Circle, #113469 Scallop Circle-2; Tools, #108362 Crop-A-Dile, #100005 Heat Tool; Embellishment #109109 Antique Brass Brad.

I'm truly enjoying the responses from stampers, both locally and via the World Wide Web who have expressed their excitement over TEXTILE ART FORMS.  Tomorrow (on day 4 of 5), you'll see a candy bouquet, a child's funny face, a beautiful soft flower and more...  In the meantime, if you like fabrics and quilting, go take a look at some of the mini quilts I've made.  Click on my This & That button (left sidebar), and scroll down past the Christmas and Autumn posts.

TEXTILE WEEK... (DAY 2 OF 5)

Give your cards a softer side by adding textiles as trims.  Using fabric on your cards adds a whole different dimension.  Anyone who loves textiles will fall in love with cloth creations - whether you are the giver or the receiver of the card!

Tuesday card

I used the Flower Fold Bigz XL Die in the Big Shot to cut these flowers from fabric.  You may cut eight layers of cotton with many of the Big Shot Dies.  This particular Die has a score line, so I was only able to cut four flowers at a time to avoid cutting fabric where the score line is positioned.  I'm still experimenting and learning as I go with this new art form.

DSC00730

I wanted a Shabby Chic look, so after adhering the center of each flower to the card with a small dab of Tombow Multi Purpose Adhesive, I used the point of the Piercing Tool to rough up the edges by pulling threads out.

THE RED HAT SOCIETY...

Last evening at a stamping workshop in my home, two of my dear customers, Jo and Peg, started talking to the other ladies about the hat from Garden from the Heart Stamp Set, and how it reminded them of the RED HAT SOCIETY... It got me all excited and after they left, I made this card...

FAB

If you'd like to read more about the huge network of women in the Red Hat Society, and the significance of red, purple or even pink hats, you can log onto their website.  www.redhatsociety.com.  The daughters, mothers and grandmothers of the RHS consider their group one like no other... Hummmm... I think I'd better make sure they all know about this stamp set!!  I'm sure they could use another hat!

The RHS reminds me of Stampin' Up! since all of us spread joy.  Like RHS, we too, are a group like no other!  Today, January 20th, Caren (from North Carolina), signed up to be a new demonstrator with me and the Sunshine Girls.  We can't wait to get to know Caren better - via the World Wide Web - and of course by sending love and greetings to her with handmade cards, perhaps with trims of red, purple and pink. Welcome, Caren!  And welcome any Red Hat Society ladies who pop in to see what all the scuttle is about.

If you know a member of the Red Hat Society, be sure to tell her to check out Polka Dots and Paper and say hello.
